You know the best thing about dogs? Everyone thinks they have the best dog in the world—and they're all right. Because dogs are the best. They bring pure, unbiased love, joy, fun, and adventure into our lives. And then, one day, it’s time to say goodbye. And all those years of memories, laughter, and love come crashing down on your heart while you hold them and help them cross peacefully. River was the dog I had the most fun with. She loved being outside in the snow, pushing ice chunks around and snapping at snowflakes like they were personal insults. She ran through the grass chasing balls like it was her life’s calling. But her absolute favourite was being on the boat, "helping" Evan fish—mostly by being in the way, but enthusiastically so. She would run until her paw pads tore and never, ever learn from it. She loved to shove her head between your legs until you bent over and gave her the attention she knew she deserved. She slept on her back, legs straight in the air like a weirdo—and we loved her even more for it. River was a substandard poodle with undeniable doggy ADHD, and we absolutely adored her. She adored us right back. There’s a River-shaped hole in our family now—and in our hearts. We love you, River. Life is Ball. Ball is Life. Hug your dog today.
